To the Shrine of Narcissus

By D.J.Granger

Blazing sun unmercifully beats down, stripping spirit, evaporating reason, leaving one stricken with a shameless thirst to self-fulfill. The vast desert ahead perpetuates various mirages of satisfaction –paths of ivory stone, lush viridian vegetation, azure colored pools each far more beautiful than the last. However, through delirious propulsion at the prospect of reaching the shrine, stone turns to sun bleached bone trailing over sand dunes towards ruins on the horizon.
